Plumbing & Water Systems


Course Description:
The Plumbing and Water Systems program gives students the opportunity to explore the plumbing trade and all other construction related trades. Students will learn and receive assistance on goal setting, resume and portfolio building, interviewing skills, help with job placement and have an opportunity to participate in a work rotation program in February.
- Learn layout, design, and maintenance of plumbing systems for residential, commercial and industrial environments.
- Develop skills in soldering, brazing, threading steel pipe, assembling PVC & cast iron, installing and maintain plumbing fixtures, including water heaters.
- Gain real-life experience at the CTC Project House installing plumbing and irrigation systems. (CTC provides transportation to/from the site.)
- Opportunity to participate in a non-paid rotation program to help build skills in residential and commercial plumbing, HVAC-R, supply houses, and irrigation companies including manufacturing/industrial settings.
- Also focuses on Skills for Success (S4S), effective communication, problem-solving skills, teamwork, collaboration, personal accountability and becoming a self-directed learner just to name a few.
Students who would benefit from this program
Students who would benefit from this program are those who possess strong mechanical and math skills, are self-motivated, hard-working, and have good time management skills.
Course Outline:
1st Semester: Hand and Power Tools, PVC Pipe and Fittings, Steel Pipe and Fittings, Copper Pipe and Fittings, and CTC Project House
2nd Semester: Rough-in Plumbing, Finish Plumbing—installing and maintaining fixtures, Water Heaters, Irrigation, and CTC Project House
High School Credit:
Students will earn elective credit at their high school upon completion of this course. Please see a high school counselor (based on district decision) for eligibility towards 4th-year math-related credit, VPAA credit, and waived credits for third year science and second year world language.
College Credit: Several Michigan post-secondary education partners offer direct and articulate credit for this course. For specifics, visit the College & Career Services tab on our website.
