Course Description:
Students will receive a basic overview of the construction industry. They will start by learning basic safety procedures including CPR and First Aid, as well as a 10-hour OSHA certificate. Students will quickly learn how to use hand and power tools in the classroom, then transfer those skills over to the CTC Project House. Construction students will also:
- Learn all aspects of residential construction including concrete, rough framing, finish carpentry, exterior finishes and blueprint reading.
- Develop skills in teamwork, leadership, math, technical and hands-on skills.
- Put classroom knowledge to work building a custom residential home in Timberline Acres, one of Holland’s most desirable subdivisions.
- Split their time between learning techniques in the classroom, lab, and hands-on application at the CTC Project House. Students will be transported by CTC school bus to/from the job site.
- Students will learn about multiple career opportunities available in the residential and commercial construction field.
