Course Description:

Students will become proficient in chair-side dental assisting and be prepared for working in a dental office. 

  • Gain experience, education-related skills, and a more confident sense of their own career path.
  • Students will be exposed to dental hygiene, dental lab assistant, dental assistant, and dentist career opportunities, as well as all other aspects within a dental office.
  • The lab is equipped with dental chairs, lighting, X-Ray, equipment and updated technology to give authentic hands-on learning in a simulated dental office setting.
  • Students will learn medical terminology and medical math.
  • Students may have opportunities for clinicals in local dental offices.
  • Students will receive certifications making them very employable.

Students who would benefit from this program

Students who would benefit from this program are those who desire to work in the field of dentistry, are adaptable, patient, caring and possess strong listening and communication skills.

 

Course Outline:

1st Semester: Disinfection, Sterilization, Hand-washing, HIPAA, OSHA, Medical Math, Medical Terminology, Restorative Fillings, Ethics, and Radiographs.

2nd Semester: Crown & Bridges, Implants, Oral Surgery, Mock interviewing, and Work experience.

High School Credit:

Students will earn elective credit at their high school upon completion of this course. Please see a high school counselor (based on district decision) for eligibility towards 4th-year math-related credit, VPAA credit, and waived credits for third year science and second year world language.
