Cosmetology
Course Description:
Cosmetology is the art and science of beautifying the hair, skin, and nails. Students in this intro course will get started on the required 1500 hours of training required to take the State of Michigan license exam. The year will focus on theory and building technical skills in sanitation, life skills, hair care, styling, cutting, coloring, chemical services, nail care, and skin care.
- Students learn all services offered in a salon including hair shaping and styling, manicures, facials, waxing, and chemical services.
- Classes are held at Tulip City Beauty College in Holland, Michigan. CTC provides busing to/from the college.
- Cosmetology is a senior only program and has a kit fee.
- Students have the potential to earn 300-350 hours during their senior year. They will need to stay enrolled at Tulip City, or enroll at another Cosmetology school, in order to complete the remaining required hours for licensure.
Students who would benefit from this program
Students who would benefit from this program are those who enjoy working with hair, nails, and cosmetics and are interested in working as a licensed cosmetologist.
Course Outline:
1st Semester: Sanitation, Life Skills, Hair Care, Styling and Braiding, Nail Care, and Skin Care.
2nd Semester: Hair color, Chemical Services, Haircutting, Business, and State Laws

High School Credit:
High School Credit: Students will earn elective credit at their high school upon completion of this course. Please see a high school counselor (based on district decision) for eligibility towards 4th-year math-related credit, VPAA credit, and waived credits for third year science and second year world language.
