Course Description:

IT Network and Security is a 1 or 2 year program that focuses on information technology related industry certifications. These certifications are geared towards hardware, operating systems, networking, security and customer relations.  Students work to master foundational skills before moving onto advanced curriculum opportunities. Our goal is to expose students to a well-rounded information technology curriculum which will allow them to make educated career and life decisions.

  • Students learn fundamental skills in PC hardware, operating systems, network topologies, protocols, and operating systems; internet technologies, customer service, and office applications. 
  • Successful completion of the program will result in opportunities for program and industry certifications.
  • A large emphasis is placed on curriculum vocabulary, industry standards/certification, college articulation, hands-on activities, project-based management and time management.
  • Gain skills in wired and wireless networking, customer service, computer/technology troubleshooting, soldering and security practices.

Students who would benefit from this program

Students who would benefit from this program are those who enjoy working on multiple projects at once, troubleshooting, possess strong technical skills, respect the privacy of information technology, and are detail oriented.

Course Outline:

1st Semester: Hardware, Operating Systems and Networking.

2nd Semester: Networking, Customer Service and Security.

High School Credit:

Students will earn elective credit at their high school upon completion of this course. Please see a high school counselor (based on district decision) for eligibility towards 4th-year math-related credit, VPAA credit, and waived credits for third year science and second year world language.

College Credit: Davenport University (Up to 46 credits), also several Michigan post-secondary education partners offer direct and articulate credit for this course. For specifics, visit the College & Career Services tab on our website.
