Course Description:

In the Career Learning Center (CLC) program, our goal is to support students who want to explore different career pathways of interest through involvement in a variety of ways, including industry tours, project-based learning in a lab setting, and career exploration through work-based learning experiences. CLC supports students in taking advantage of all the ways students can further explore their skills and interests in order to find a career path that’s a good fit for their future. 

While in CLC, students will have an opportunity to:

  • Explore a minimum of 16 programs offered at CTC.
  • Experience industry tours to area businesses.
  • Learn and build upon career readiness skills, through classroom activities, experiences and reflection.
  • Have hands-on experiences in a lab setting exploring skills of different career paths.
  • Have the opportunity to participate in job shadows and work-based learning opportunities.
  • Learn about financial planning through various financial literacy simulations and guest speakers.
  • Develop a plan to achieve future career opportunities and career goals.

Students who would benefit from this program

Students who would benefit from this program are those who are looking to explore a variety of careers and build their career-ready skills.

Course Outline:

CLC instructors will guide students through the exploration of many different career pathways for two weeks each. Each pathway will be examined through labs, tours, professional networking, job shadows, work-based learning and guest speakers. Students will work on career skills, grow their social capital, employability skills, and financial literacy.

  • Transportation/Basic Car Maintenance

High School Credit:

Students will earn elective credit at their high school upon completion of this course. Talk to your school counselor about potential additional credit opportunities. If other credits are needed for placement, your sending school counselor can talk with a CTC counselor.
