Automotive Technology


Course Description:
Students put classroom knowledge to work by servicing customer cars in the auto mechanics lab. The hands-on activities are aligned with current course segments. Through classroom and lab experiences, students have the opportunity to gain State of Michigan certifications. This program is accredited by the ASE Education Foundation and our instructors are ASE Master certified.
Auto Tech A: Focuses on steering suspensions, electrical systems, engine performance and heating/air conditioning.
Auto Tech B: Focuses on brakes and braking systems, engine mechanical repair/manual transmissions and automatic transmissions.

NOTE: Students do not need to take Auto Tech A before Auto Tech B. They are interchangeable.
Students who would benefit from this program
Students who would benefit from this program are those who enjoy working with their hands and are seeking a profession in the automotive industry. We are a great segue for technicians, service writers, parts professionals and anyone with an interest in learning more about how things work. Students spend roughly an hour a day in lecture and the remaining time is spent in the lab working on hands-on projects. Lecture will consist of interactive lectures and demonstrations.
High School Credit:
Students will earn elective credit at their high school upon completion of this course. Please see a high school counselor (based on district decision) for eligibility towards 4th-year math-related credit, VPAA credit, and waived credits for third year science and second year world language.
